That Time I Lost My Wedding Ring…

A mom has a lot to worry about during the day: keeping your kids alive and out of harm, what you are going to feed your them and your husband, how that stick of chapstick got bite marks in it, and much more! One thing we may not even think about is your jewelry and more importantly your WEDDING RING!

If you work from home like I do, your momiform may consist of work out pants, t-shirt and a sweatshirt or pullover- yes, we know our husbands are very lucky.  But one thing my momiform doesn’t come with is my wedding ring and it’s very rare I throw it on with my sweats.  Sure. I’ll wear it for a night out or to attend meetings but not around the house.

So, one day after a VERY long day with the kids I decided to take my ring off while unwinding with some DVR with my husband and set it on the coffee table next to me or, so I thought…

I woke up the next morning with the impression my ring was sitting on the table and not much worry about it until I went to go put it away.  The last thing I needed was for the dog or kids to eat it.

Flash forward two hours later with the living room torn apart for the 5th time, ten calls to my husband crying, texts to my friends and family freaking out- it was nowhere to be found. I knew if it was not one place it was inside one of my children as they went straight downstairs into their chairs for breakfast. The only other option was the DOG!

I followed that dog around all day – even outside which I still regret, gave him extra food and treats, and trying to feed him other jewelry to see if he would eat it. I even scheduled an appointment with the vet to get an x-ray to see if it was inside.

Still no luck. At this point I thought it was gone forever.  I tried to come to terms with the fact that the ring I loved so much was gone, and it wasn’t coming back. So, I did what every person in this position would do… I built some new rings online and sent them to my husband to see if he liked these. Of course, they would never match up to my original one and I would never just go purchase one this quick.

Once the “fun” was over, it was time to get back to my daily to-do’s which included the beloved laundry. If you are like me, I don’t mind putting it in the washer. It’s the whole switching to the dryer, folding and putting away I hate. As I’m putting the laundry in the washer, I hear something fall and I decided to check- you never know what your toddler might throw in there. To my surprise, it was MY RING!

I may have started screaming but quietly, so I didn’t disturb naptime, quickly called my husband screaming and laughing “I found it” and thanked my friends/family for the good juju!

A mom’s job consists of a lot, and one thing I probably shouldn’t be in charge of is expensive things. I now check every night to make sure my ring is in its spot and if it’s not I will get up in the middle of the night to find it!
